The Cabildo

Cabildo 1
Located along Jackson Square, the Cabildo was initially the seat of colonial government in New Orleans, Louisiana, and now has turned into a museum. As this was also the site of the Louisiana Purchase Transfer ceremonies in 1803, Cabildo is considered an important historical building of the state.

From its early days, this museum has been the witness of several events and also visited by five American Presidents that has increased its historic importance at the highest.

There are several historic exhibits on display in the museum, including:

  • Iberville Stone - This Stone marks the founding of the first French settlement in Louisiana, dated 1699.
  • Paintings of the explorer Pierre Le Moyne, Sieur d"Iberville - These explorers made the first settlement on the coast of Louisiana, as well as Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne, Sieur de Bienville, the founder of New Orleans.
  • Historic Painting - These paintings show how the town square looked on the day the Americans raised their flag in 1803. Other than these, there are numerous artifacts from the Battle of New Orleans like uniforms of Andrew Jackson’s troops.
