Audubon Aquarium of the America
The Audubon Aquarium of the America is a popular attraction of New Orleans, well recognized as one of the leading aquariums in the United States. Opened in 1990, the Aquarium of the Americas is run by the Audubon Institute that also runs the Audubon Zoo and Audubon Park.

The Audubon Aquarium of the America is situated at a pleasant location along the banks of the Mississippi River by the edge of the historic French Quarter off Canal Street, housing IMAX Theater along with numerous exhibits.

As its name suggests, the Aquarium’s exhibits entirely belong to aquatic life of the America, mainly from North and South America.

The exhibits of the Aquarium include total 10,000 animals from 530 species and divided into different sections including:

  • A Caribbean reef exhibit - This section features clear, 30-foot long tunnel surrounded by a 132,000 US gallons tank of exemplary sea life including marine animals like - the Bonnethead Shark and the Clownfish.
  • An Amazon exhibit - This has been encased in a glass cylinder that is a prominent feature of the riverfont including marine animals like Macaws, Piranhas, an Anaconda, Freshwater Stingrays and many more.
  • A Mississippi River Gallery - This section includes Catfish, Paddlefish, Owls and a leucistic white Alligator.
  • A Gulf of Mexico exhibit - This houses a 400,000 US gallons, 17-foot (5 m) tall tank that includes Sharks, Sea turtles, and Stingrays from the Gulf. Other than these, the Aquarium also hosts Exhibits for Sea Otters and African Penguins.
